Notes of Note

It's late, and from what I can see out of the window, it's trying to snow here again tonight. That's great news, because I was not ready for warm weather. In fact, I'm never ready. I would take -20 any day over a Toronto 85. As I look at what will likely be the last snow of the year, I give to you the best travel advice you will ever get. Now, I don't know how many of you have been to Toronto in August before, but here's my advice about that: Don't. Just don't. It's gross, and I'm already dreading it's approcach. Anyway, as you may have already been able to tell, I am tired, and as always that means it's time for the great Nation of Hungary's favourite new feature: Notes of Note.

Ottawa Senators Petition

I'll start this off by addressing the needs and desires of my dedicated readers. You asked for it, and now you've got it: An official petition to bring BeaverTails back to hockey games in Ottawa.

Hockey games in Ottawa just aren't the same anymore, now that Tim Hortons has taken over Scotiabank Place. I understand economics, and I realize that Timmy's is probably paying a pretty penny for that kind of product placement, but someone has to start understanding tradition. Eugene Melnyk seems like the kind of guy who just might understand, so there's no better time than now to do what we can to bring back the tails. Every signature counts, so get signing!

More Problems With Soccer

As if there weren't enough things wrong with soccer, case in point this video:

now we're faced with a new kind of demon. Fanny Amun, the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Football Association, came out an admitted that bribery is common among refs in Nigerian soccer. OK, so that isn't too surprising, I think people figured that one out a while ago. It is what he went on to say that is truly baffling:

"We know match officials are offered money or anything to influence matches and they can accept it... Referees should only pretend to fall for the bait, but make sure the result doesn't favor those offering the bribe"

That's right, the head of Nigerian Soccer came right out and that that refs are allowed to take bribes, so long as they just try really hard not to hold up their side of the bargain. Oh soccer.

Rico and the Sutherby's

Somebody in the Capitals organization clearly reads my articles. Just a day after my glowing review of Rico's abilities, the Capitals coaching staff finally released his reigns, and gave him the needed constructive criticism. The result? 2 goals and 1 assist on 4 shots. That's right, he quadrupled his entire seasons output in one night. Unfortunately, however, it was all for naught as the Caps blew this comeback in overtime 6-5 to Vasicek.

The Caines got 6 goals, while Staal had no points. The Caps are doing a great job of shutting down their opponents big guys. Unfortunately they seem to forget that there are other lines on the other teams, which I guess has a lot to do with the fact that they aren't used to such an unorthodox strategy. Speaking of which, for those of you keeping score at home, the Seven Sutherby's had 1 goal and 1 assist on 7 shots, 19 PIM and a -5. Halpren (Sutherby the Ubiquitous) really went out of his way to try to shot that he's not a Sutherby, as he was +1, with a goal and 2 fights. The rest of them, however, were just as you'd expect, right down to zero's across the board from Sutherby the Weak.

Romanian Hockey

Sometimes the JF and I try to decide where I should have my kids to give them the best shot at international hockey fame. Occasionally Romania comes up as a possibility, but we're never really certain if much in the way goes on with hockey there. Until now. Finally video proof exists that there are, in fact, televised hockey leagues in Romania. It's not ideal footage, but there it is anyway. I think my favourite parts are when they show the top right blue line. That guy seems to be there hitting the other guy with his stick every time they show that area. Other than that, it's really just a disgrace, but nonetheless my kids have renewed hope for the future.

Mogilny Watch

Speaking of which, I've also finally found footage to prove that Mogilny has, in fact, reported to Albany. He certainly doesn't belong there, as I've mentioned enough times before that I just can't keep going on about it. But as wrong as it might be, he is there, and here is the proof.
